Friday afternoon, we packed up the truck and amazed ourselves at all the things required for two adults, one baby, and two dogs to camp in relative comfort. However, we managed to get it all in without using the roof rack. Next time we won't be so lucky since we'll have another kid to contend with :)
Anyway, we arrived at the park, and after a harrowing (Peter scoffs at this) ride down a rocky tilted "road", found a nice grassy camp spot on the edge of the lake. Tasha was already there with Tristan and their two dogs (Thea and Indy). We started unpacking the truck and setting up our tent and cooking stuff. By the time that was all done, it was time for dinner. After eating and cleaning up, we had a little time to play before putting Jaden to bed.
At bedtime, we got Jaden all bundled up in some jammies and a fleece sleeper and laid him down on the nest we had created next to our new air mattress (a concession we decided to finally make due to my big ole belly :). After just a few minutes of confused crying, he nodded off to sleep. When we went to check on him later, this is what we discovered. . .
He had crawled to the door of the tent, was kneeling on the floor, and bent over to lay on top of the air mattress. Mind you, this is the complete opposite side of the tent from where we had laid him down. Of course, he had taken Scruffy with him. That's him underneath Jaden's butt.
After s'mores and good conversation around the campfire, it was time for me to go to bed, too. In my efforts to get Jaden back into his bed, I woke him up. He didn't fuss for too long, but didn't go back to sleep either. I started to get worried that he wasn't warm enough, so I pulled him into my sleeping bag with me. He immediately fell asleep and didn't wake up again the whole night. I, on the other hand, hardly slept a wink. Shifting positions with a toddler in your sleeping bag is not an easy task, and neither is laying in one position for hours at a time when you're six months pregnant. Oh well, I got to snuggle with my baby (something I don't get to do very much), watch him sleep, and watch him wake up in the morning.
On Saturday, we did the normal camping stuff. The dogs got to play with each other some more, and since the Tyners also have a puppy (albeit a much bigger one), Hershey was in dog heaven.
Early afternoon, we decided we'd had enough and started to pack up to head home. Jaden was a big help.
In the end, it was a short but very sweet trip. It may be a long time before we are able to get out on another camping trip, but we definitely plan on doing it again. We'll just need a bigger tent to accommodate the growing family. I look forward to future camping trips with my family as well as lots of other family expeditions, outings that will create memories to cherish for generations and solidify our family bonds.

Looks like y'all had a great time. Sorry you didn't sleep.
That is so cute, him leaned over there on the air mattress. Almost like he's kneeling in prayer. And the precious thumb sucking! Oh, man remember the days of trying to sleep with Marillah in the same bed and although like you said it has its advantages it's just not very comfortable!
That's cool about your kid's day. My parents always gave me end of the school year gifts, some of which I still have. It's fun that our families celebrated the kids as special individuals too.
Glad you made it through the camping trip and had a good time.
