GranDee

If you thought we were blessed by one wonderful family, you don't know the half of it. When Riley was two weeks old, GranDee (aka my mom) came to stay with us for a couple weeks. She would have been here sooner, but GranDee is not just a grandma, she's also a mom, and her youngest baby (my 22 year old brother Grey) was having surgery in Orlando and needed her help during recovery. We gladly shared her, knowing that the important thing was not WHEN she came, but THAT she came and spent two weeks blessing us with her time, love, and kindness.

When GranDee arrived, she gave me a big hug and kiss. The second thing she did was give Riley a big hug and kiss. Here's their first picture together.

The third thing she did was give Jaden a big hug and kiss. Here's a picture of GranDee with her two King grandbabies. Note that Jaden's expression has nothing to do with GranDee and more to do with not wanting his picture taken just at that moment. As you can see, GranDee took it all in stride, knowing that she would have her moments with Jaden later on.

She was not to be disappointed. GranDee came bearing gifts. Not only did she have clothes for both boys, monkeys for Riley, and various other goodies for Jaden, she had blankets. GranDee is famous for her flannel blankets that she lovingly makes for friends and family alike. They are soft, cute, and big enough for a variety of uses. Jaden decided he would use one of his blankets to make a tent.

That was so fun, he decided this GranDee thing must be pretty cool. As the time went by, GranDee even got some very rare and special snuggle time with Jaden. Granted, she was "bribing" him with back stratches, but it was genuine nonetheless.

We also got in some story time.

And of course, there were many opportunities for GranDee to love on Riley, too.

In addition to spending time with the boys, Mom took care of me! She cooked meals, cleaned the kitchen, and did laundry. Literally, a dish would get used, and the next thing I knew it was washed, dried, and put away. She also sent me off to take naps almost every day, a gift that any new mom appreciates. We did errands, worked on baby book stuff, and sat around drinking coffee and chatting. It was a perfect time that we will always cherish.

We reluctantly sent GranDee away with a few tears and a lot of smiles, knowing that new bonds were made and old bonds were strengthened. We thank God for her and the rest of my family and look forward to seeing them again!! If only we all lived in the same town. . . or even state. . .Alas!

I agree...I don't know what I would have done without my Mom coming to visit after Parker was born. It's such precious time and like you, I wish my Mom lived closer too.

Oh Miss Muffett - you surely exagerated in this post - yet the time I had with you and your 3 boys WAS very special - and most assuredly VERY SPECIAL for me. It warmed my heart to see my 2 grandbabies parented so well and to be able to establish a little foundation with Riley and to really get a LOT of building done on my relationship with Jaden. I have LOTS to ponder and keep my battery charged until the next time we can be together!!! Thank you all for welcoming me so thoroughly and especially Peter - having your mother-in-law for 2 straight weeks can get wearisome :) but he always made me feel loved and appreciated!!! A RARE gift indeed. Hugs back atcha ~ Mommis/GranDee
